Whey Protein Supplement Diet

EAT JUNK BECOME JUNK

Why is a healthy diet important to me? Each part of my body, each of my billions of cells are created directly from the food I ingest. These hands and fingers I see typing away were built from food I ate yesterday as well as years before. The common phrase “we are what we eat” is a rather profound notion. For realizing the food I eat directly impacts the state and condition of my existence is a powerful and easily controllable tool to increase my overall well being.  From the ground up I can strengthen my mind and body by eating optimum nutrition.

Each cell in our body receives nourishment from the food we eat. If poison is ingested our cells absorb it and cease working correctly. Then the complex systems built from those cells, such as organs, fail. If enough cells are poisoned and crucial systems collapse, the whole body fails. Instead, what we want are thriving cells which in turn form the basis for a thriving body and mind. To reach that goal I start with the smallest unit in my body by controlling what they are fed. The complex systems built from these individual cells can only operate at the highest level if each cell is operating at full potential as well. If you feed your custom, hand-built exotic Italian car poor-quality gasoline not only will you get slapped by the auto maker, your car will not preform optimally. If cells are unhealthy, then systems built from those cells are unhealthy too.

The most complex system built from individual cells is our consciousness. Our thoughts – each and every single one – originates from the gray matter between our ears. That collection of undulating fat contained in our skull is too built and nourished from the substances we consume daily. If thoughts are formed from cells created and nourished from food, I thus change the opening motto to EAT JUNK THINK JUNK.

What I Eat (last 4 months)

Whey Protein concentrate
Almonds, raw
Celery
Spinach, raw
Vegetable and Fruit Powders
Dates
Clif Protein Bar (mostly soy)
Occasional raw fruits and veggies such as bananas, carrots, cauliflower, cranberries, blueberries, etc..
Twice a month or so sushi or chicken taco (mistake due to not ingesting enough whey before heading outdoors)
Fish Oil
Sea Salt
Seaweed
Water

Previous to November 2008 back to March I ate hard boiled eggs instead of whey protein, so I have had pretty much the same diet for a year.

Have you notice the lack of grains in my diet? Since cutting out wheat, bread, and pasta from my diet my level of well being rose considerably. Previously, eating one or two slices of pizza would fill my head with haze making me sleepy. What I learned was that reaction is a immune histamine response just like what happens when we get a cold. With the absence of dietary grains I am no longer making myself sick from the food I eat. It’s amazing how much better I feel and operate when not I am not being pulled down by poor quality, inflammatory foods.

Why I Use Whey Protein

Whey protein is a by-product of cheese manufacturing. Therefore it is animal based which is unfortunate because I strive to be free of animal-based foods. However, feeling functional and well is a more pressing need at the moment and notably whey protein is passively obtained opposed to meat.

Whey protein powder is my key source of that macro nutrient in my diet. Since adding it to my diet around August 2008 I have been feeling excellent. Before I would experience strong cravings for meat or eggs perhaps once a week even though I was getting adequate amounts of protein through soy protein isolate (not tofu). Not only does it appear I need a lot of protein in my diet, but it must be animal based as well.

The whey protein I buy is generic, cheap and naturally vanilla flavored. It is not made from cows treated with rBGH. I am not a bodybuilder nor supplementing my diet with whey protein, but using whey as a main source of this macro nutrient. It’s branched chain amino acids are not found in any of my other food sources.

My History – From Junk Meat to Vegan to Whey

Over the past year I have pretty much found a diet that works well for me. Since intentionally eating poorly for eight years or so on cheap pizza, breaded chicken fingers, ramen noodles and then to cheap meats, sausage and (good) beer I have changed my diet to one which is more healthy and conscientious to the environment, myself and animals. This diet change has not been without it’s challenges however. At first I was ignorant to my previous diet high protein intake and failed at matching that level on my vegan and later vegetarian diet resulting in lethargy. But after listening to my body’s needs and documenting the macro nutrient ratios of what food items I was ingesting, I was able to make the proper corrections that resulting in me feeling more satisfied with what I ate.

After weening myself off meat in November 2007 and supplementing my diet with tofu I attempted to live on a vegan diet starting in January 2008. As each month passed I felt more and more weak. It got to the point at the three month mark that everything I lifted such as weights felt twice as heavy and simple actions such as walking up stairs was tiring. Moreover, this physical exhaustion resulted in me feeling emotionally drained and depressed. Clearly, something was not right with my diet.

It was at this point that I ate two scrambled eggs with sea salt cooked in canola oil. Ruffly two hours later my energy level increased and I felt happy and energized. This energy lasted a mere three or four hours at which point I ate more scrambled eggs. The following day was a good day. I had more energy. At this point I stopped eating tofu and replaced it with daily hard boiled eggs always eaten with sea salt. I continued feeling fine and my strength returned very quickly.

Now eating half a container of tofu has about 20 grams of protein if I remember. Two hard-boiled eggs have between 6 and 8 depending if the eggs are medium or large. It doesn’t seem to be protein itself which I was lacking in my diet. Furthermore, I doubt it was iron that I was lacking in my diet even though lethargy is a sign of anemia. Firstly, men should not need to supplement their diet with iron. Secondly, I was supplimenting my diet with iron pills once or twice a week as well as drinking spinach smoothies a few times per week which are high in iron (though not all easily absorbable as iron sourced from animals). Lastly, I added salt to my tofu dishes. What caused my energy drop?

Could a lack of animal-based proteins be the cause of my problem? Was there a lack of amino-acids that I was not obtaining in my diet? Perhaps a mineral deficiency such as phosphorus or zinc was the source of the problem. It will be hard to know for sure, but adding whey protein and zinc supplements seemed to have resolved the problem.

Why is this diet important to me?

Being able to control what I eat allows me to control the health of my cells and the systems that arise from them. Having a pure diet results in pure mind and body. If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, short attention, obesity, diabetes, skin problems, digestive issues or failing memory then start changing your diet today. Start by eliminating dairy, grains and of course fast food. Those problems I listed are symptoms of eating sub-optimal food. Start by purifying the source of your existence – food, then you can experience your body and mind heal and grow to a higher level of performance.
